Summertime is without question one of the best times of year to fill our homes with uplifting colors, conjuring images of the natural world in full bloom. In July, the height of summer, there's even more reason to embrace color with celebrations in full swing.

As we near the end of July, we're reflecting on the summer color trends that have defined the past month. If your summer decor ideas are in need of a mid-season refresh, these colors should be on your radar, whether you're considering paint ideas or smaller decor tweaks.

From ocean-inspired shades of blue to warm and saturated hues reminiscent of sunsets, these five color trends will no doubt spark some inspiration if you're looking for the most stylish room color ideas this summer.

5 colors to decorate with in July

According to designers, these five color trends have been some of the most significant throughout July, while versatile enough to last throughout the home year-round.

Taking inspiration from the natural world is a good place to start all year long when it comes to interior color choices, but that's especially true during the summer. Blue, for example, is one of the most popular colors in the design world year-round, but its association with the ocean makes it an especially effective summer color choice.

When decorating with blue, you can't go wrong with teaming it with white, creating a coastal color palette that's incredibly timeless, while boasting a calming quality that makes it well-placed for bedrooms and bathrooms.

In this living room designed by Young Huh Interior Design, dark blue walls are teamed with blue decor to create a cool and calm space. 'The living room is all about a gorgeous deep blue, feeling both chic and comfortable,' says Young.

2. Aqua green

'Aqua shades of green work so well during the summer months and can be a great base layer to use in the home throughout the year,' says interior designer Jenny Luck of Jenny Luck Interiors.

Again, aqua green is an incredibly soothing color to use inside the home whilst having strong associations with the natural world.

'Whilst feeling light, relaxed, and refreshing when combined with warm neutrals or punchier accents such as summery corals and white marbles, they work well layered up with deeper shades of green and ochre tones which could transition the scheme through the winter,' continues Jenny.

3. Sunset hues

'When I think summer I think in reds, yellows, pinks, and oranges,' says interior designer Nadia Watts. 'Bright, saturated colors that remind me of the sunset over the lake; warm tones that evoke long summer days.'

For Nadia, summer color inspiration comes from the slower pace of life during these months, turning to nature and reflecting this indoors through vibrant, warm hues that feel uplifting.

'July brings a sense of freedom: school's out, work slows and family comes together. I am inspired by the slower pace of summer, it reminds me to take a moment to step back and appreciate the natural world around us. Pulling colors from nature has always been a special source for me, and what better time to do that than in the height of summer.'

4. Light green

Don't forget about decorating with green for July and the rest of the summer months. The most calming of all colors, light shades of green are especially effective at this time of year, bringing a neutral yet warm feel to the home.

If you're someone who usually favors decorating with neutrals, light green is a great way to venture beyond whites and beiges whilst maintaining a subtle, liveable look.

Much like this living room La Manufacture Cogolin rug from the brand's Jardin Intérieur collection, light green feels sophisticated and timeless, while it pairs seamlessly with plenty of other hues, such as pink. 'This light green brings a touch of freshness to any room and shines as the foundation of your own interior garden,' says Sarah Henry, Managing and Creative Director.

5. Yellow

Decorating with yellow is a failsafe choice all summer long. Reminiscent of sunshine, yellow is one of the most optimistic and cheerful hues to incorporate into the home, making it the perfect July hue if you enjoy a bold approach to color.

'I am currently designing a full room scheme around yellow, specifically a yellow damask and yellow striped rug,' says interior designer Laura Jenkins of Laura W. Jenkins Interiors. 'I am getting strong yellow coneflower vibes and I love it.'

Since yellow can be a bold choice, take inspiration from Laura's approach and channel yellow through decorative items. This ensures this bright and bold hue maintains a liveable feel while filling the space with a vibrant and cheerful look.

From cool-toned blues to vibrant sunset hues, these colors are the go-to choices for July. Helping you achieve a welcoming and vibrant feel through your summer decorating, these colors are also versatile enough to transition into the fall months.
