5 clubs Mason Mount can join in summer transfer as Chelsea star's contract runs down

Mason Mount's time at Chelsea could be approaching its end, with his contract having just 18 months left to run.

Talks over a new deal for the England international have stalled, though Graham Potter has made it clear he wants the midfielder to stay. But if a new contract has not been agreed by the summer, then the Blues could look to sell the 24-year-old at the end of the season.

Mount would not be short of suitors if Chelsea decided to take that nuclear option, with the midfielder seen as one of the brightest young players in the Premier League. Here, Mirror Football looks at five teams who could battle for his signature.

Liverpool

One of Mount's long-time admirers has been Liverpool, with the Reds frequently linked with a move for the 24-year-old. While Mount has tended to play within the front three for much of his time at the Blues, he has also featured in central midfield.

That is a position Liverpool will certainly be looking to improve in the summer window. One stumbling block would be their move for Jude Bellingham though, with the Borussia Dortmund star set to cost a sizeable fee.

Manchester United

Also interested in signing a new midfielder, but with little hope of bringing in Bellingham, is Manchester United. That could lead them to make a move for Mount as an alternative target, with ESPN reporting the Red Devils are monitoring his situation.

Erik ten Hag's rebuild of the club means they are now a force to be reckoned with once again and make an attractive proposition for potential players. Mount would certainly add quality to their squad and he may well see United as a more likely to challenge for trophies.

With a Premier League club being Bellingham's most likely destination in the summer, Real Madrid will be exploring other targets. Los Blancos have been working on a revamp of their squad and Mount could be the latest piece of their puzzle.

The 24-year-old would bring international pedigree and a history of winning the Champions League with him to the Bernabeu. And the chance to play for one of the world's biggest clubs will also likely be attractive to Mount.

Manchester City

Certainly possessing the funds to buy both Bellingham and Mount are Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's side have seen first hand how Mount can deliver on the biggest stage, with the Englishman having set up the winning goal when the Blues defeated City in the 2021 Champions League final.

The chance to join the serial trophy winners may be attractive to Mount, though with City possessing a wealth of options in nearly every area of their squad, the 24-year-old may struggle for game-time.

Juventus

If Mount is keen on a European adventure, then he made be able to find a home at Juventus. The Serie A giants have struggled this season, having been embattled by a financial crisis that saw them deducted 15 points.

One way to restore the good times would be to make a splash in the transfer market. Signing one of the Premier League's best young players would certainly fulfill that brief for the Old Lady.
