The Scottish Premiership has an uncanny knack to provide the thrills and Saturday's pulsating 2-2 draw between Hibs and Rangers had a little bit of everything.
Full commitment and cracking goals is what punters seek and the lunchtime showdown in Leith was jam-packed with major talking points. Referee Willie Collum was in the thick of it on a day Gio van Bronckhorst's side were reduced to nine men after both Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram were given their marching orders in the second half. And the Ibrox side couldn't hold on as Josh Campbell netted a last-gasp leveller.
The high drama in the second period was a follow-on from two penalty decisions the man in the middle had to make, with Rangers getting a spot kick after Rocky Bushiri grabbed Antonio Colak after the same Hibs player was denied one amid contact from James Tavernier at the other end.
And what about the Jake Doyle-Hayes challenge? Rangers boss van Bronckhorst cited that as he rued the "harsh" decision to give Lundstram his marching orders. And the Dutchman had an ally in Hibs manager Lee Johnson, as he reckoned the Collum got that one wrong.
On a pulsating day of action, Sky Sports double act Kris Boyd and James McFadden plus Aiden McGeady debated the big calls. BBC pundits Michael Stewart and Neil McCann also weighed in.
Bushiri's penalty appeal
The first big talking point. Tavernier appeared to have hold of the defender as Collum had a good view of the tangle in the box.
McGeady: "I think it was a penalty. I think if you just take that incident on it's own it's a penalty. I've seen them given and I've seen them not given so unfortunately we didn't get the penalty and then Rangers go up the other end and get one themselves."
McFadden: "Not if you are able to focus on each incident individually, which that ones easier [Bushiri on Colak] because Willie Collum is looking straight at it. There is less force used from Rocky Bushiri than Tavernier uses. But if you give one you have to give the other. It is a penalty kick, it's crazy from Rocky Bushiri but I think they were fortunate to get away with it earlier in the game."
Jake Doyle-Hayes' booking
The decision that became a bigger talking point after the game due to the call to send Lundstram off (we'll get to that in a bit). The Irishman received a caution for hauling down Lundstram in the first period.
McFadden: "It is a tactical foul, a cynical foul, both of them and that's where the consistency you are asking for comes. The difference? The only difference you can see is Lundstram lunges into it. Willie Collum's the wrong side. He maybe thinks there's more force in it but there's no force for me."
Stewart: "I will tell you what else; Jake Doyle-Hayes wiped out John Lundstram in the first half with a similar sort of incident when Lundstram was driving forward and he came in from the side with a scissors tackle which was arguably worse and he didn't get sent off."
Bushiri/Colak penalty award
Referee Willie Collum pointed to the spot after Rocky Bushiri looked to have put his hands on Antonio Colak inside the box. The ball had gone away from the pair and was trickling through to the feet of Hibs keeper David Marshall.
Boyd: "It's probably epitomised the first half. That battle between Antonio Colak and Rocky Bushiri. They have been close together. They've been grabbing onto each other but I do not know what's going through Bushiri's mind there to pull Antonio Colak back. There's no debate that it's a penalty, the next debate is whether if it's a red card or not. The IFAB man is here to clear it all up."
McFadden : "He's pulled him back. You can't pull him and I think it's just a reaction from Bushiri. It's very minimal contact, you can't be putting your arms around him and it's a penalty kick which is well dispatched by James Tavernier.
McGeady: "It is a penalty, yes. I'm not quite sure what Rocky's doing because Colak isn't getting any of the ball there. It's going safely back to Marsh. It's a bit of a blur, even Porto maybe playing the ball back to Marsh isn't the best possible pass but I'm just a bit confused as to what Rocky was doing there.
Stewart: "You could say thanks to James Tavernier's penalty. I mean it's thanks to Rocky Bushiri. It's an absolute moment of stupidity. Having said all that I am not convinced it's a penalty. I don't think from the viewing that I've had. I'm not convinced there's enough of a pull. I'm not even sure if there is a pull. I just think he puts two hands on him, which is just crazy."
Lundstram red card
On a day of contentious issues, the call to send the Scouser for an early bath for a cynical tackle on Martin Boyle was met with fierce debate from punters, both managers and the pundits.
Stewart: "The sending off of Lundstram is just, again it's another one where the fact that he has given a red card people can start to debate if he's lunged in."
Boyd: "I think that one from Doyle-Hayes is actually worse than the Lundstram one. From that angle that one looks worse."
Morelos red card
Perhaps the incident met with least resistance, apart from commentator Andy Walker who claimed Collum got it wrong after Morelos caught Marijan Cabraja with a swinging blow in the face.
Stewart: "Alfredo Morelos' sending off - that is the one Willie Collum has got right. There's no question. Absolute madness. It's a red card all day long and that's one that Willie Collum did get right."
McCann: "Morelos is smiling away. I don't know what he's smiling about if he's elbowed the boy in the face because it's crazy. Porteous and Bushiri are on yellows, I thought Morelos could ruffle their feathers. A straight red for Morelos is ridiculous. He's let his side down massively."
