5 Best Ultrawide Monitors Of 2019

Best UltraWide Monitors – RTINGS.COM

We buy our own products and put them under the same testing methodology so that you can easily compare them. Unlike most websites, we do not get our products directly from the manufacturers, which means our units aren’t handpicked and actually represent what you would buy yourself. We spend a lot of time comparing the products side-by-side to validate our results and we keep them until they are discontinued so we can continually go back and make sure our reviews are always accurate.

Ultrawide monitors have become more and more popular in recent years. Whether you are looking for a more immersive gaming experience, or an easier multitasking experience for work, ultrawide monitors are a great alternative to a multi-monitor setup. They are easier to configure than multiple monitors, take up less desk space, and have no distracting bezel between the displays. Regardless of your needs, there is an ultrawide out there for you.

We’ve reviewed 12 ultrawide monitors, and below you’ll find out picks for the best ones.

Dell U3818DW: The best ultrawide monitor

Dell U3818DW – RTINGS.COM

Type: IPS
Size: 38”
Resolution: 3840×1600

The Dell U3818DW is the best ultrawide monitor that we’ve tested so far. The large, high-resolution screen is excellent for multitasking. It also has a unique set of connections that allows you to display and work on two computers at once, even with only one keyboard and mouse, which is great if you have a home PC and laptop.

The U3818DW has great wide viewing angles, perfect for sharing your work with nearby colleagues. The stand has a great tilt range and good height adjustment, and it can swivel, which is great. Like most Dell monitors, the stand itself doesn’t take up too much space, which is great if you have limited desk space.

Unfortunately, the U3818DW doesn’t look as good in a dark room. There is noticeable overshoot that causes smearing behind moving objects, making it less enjoyable when watching movies or playing games. Overall, it is a good monitor for most uses.

Dell AW3418DW: The best ultrawide gaming monitor

Dell AW3418DW – RTINGS.COM

Type: IPS
Size: 34”
Resolution: 3440×1440

If you like the Dell U3818DW, but would prefer something with better gaming performance, check out the Dell AW3418DW instead. It has a fast 100 Hz refresh rate that can be overclocked to 120 Hz, and it supports NVIDIA G-SYNC, which is great. Like the U3818DW, the AW3418DW has great wide viewing angles and a gently curved screen.

It has much better motion handling than the U3818DW. It has a fast response time, with none of the overshoot issues the larger model has, great for gaming or for watching movies.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as good in a dark room, like most IPS monitors. It also doesn’t have the same connections as the U3818DW, and no Picture-By-Picture mode. Overall, the Dell AW3418DW is a great monitor for multitasking, and a versatile ultrawide monitor that should please most people.

Dell U4919DW: An impressive super-wide office monitor

Dell U4919DW – RTINGS.COM

Type: IPS
Size: 49”
Resolution: 5120×1440

If a normal ultrawide like the Dell U3818DW is too small, check out the Dell U4919DW. This massive 49” monitor delivers an impressive office experience, thanks to the Dual QHD native resolution and 32:9 aspect ratio, which is the equivalent of two 16:9 1440p monitors stuck together.

The U4919DW has great connections, including the ability to work on two computers at once. Thankfully, it doesn’t have the motion smearing issues seen on the smaller U3818DW, so motion looks a bit better, great for gaming or watching movies.

Unfortunately, like the other IPS monitors on this list, the U4919DW doesn’t look as good in a dark room. It also has abnormally high input lag when displaying non-native resolutions, which could cause some issues if your computer can’t display the native resolution. Overall though, it is a good monitor that should please most people.

LG 34UC79G-B: The best FreeSync ultrawide gaming monitor

LG 34UC79G-B – RTINGS.COM

Type: IPS

Size: 34”
Resolution: 2560×1080

If you’re looking for an ultrawide gaming monitor with FreeSync support, the LG 34UC79G-B is the best ultrawide FreeSync gaming monitor that we’ve tested so far. It is a good 34”, 2560×1080 monitor with great gaming features, including low input lag and FreeSync support.

It delivers a great gaming experience, thanks to the fast 144 Hz refresh rate and FreeSync support, which even works with NVIDIA’s new Adaptive Sync drivers, but only over DisplayPort. It has an excellent response time and delivers smooth motion with only a short blur trail behind fast moving objects. It also has an optional black frame insertion feature that can reduce persistence blur, which is great.

Unfortunately, the 34UC79G-B can’t get very bright, which could cause some issues if you have a bright room, and it doesn’t look as good in a dark room. Overall though, it is a good monitor for most uses, and a great FreeSync gaming monitor.

LG 29UM69G-B: The best budget ultrawide monitor

LG 29UM69G-B – RTINGS.COM

Type: IPS
Size: 29”
Resolution: 2560×1080

If you want an ultrawide monitor but have a limited budget, the LG 29UM69G-B is the best budget ultrawide monitor that we’ve tested so far. It has a similar look to the larger 34UC79G-B, but the refresh rate is limited to 75 Hz, and the smaller model has only a single HDMI input.

Like the larger model, the 29UM69G-B has a fast response time, low input lag, and FreeSync support. Unfortunately, it does not have an optional black frame insertion feature to reduce persistence blur.

Unfortunately, the 29UM69G-B that we tested has horrible black uniformity and doesn’t look very good in a dark room. It also can’t get very bright, so viewing conditions are a very important factor before choosing this monitor. Overall though, it is a decent ultrawide monitor, great if you are on a tight budget.
