The Chargers are looking to snap their losing streak when they face the Bears in primetime.
While Chicago might not be having the best season right now either, as they’re 2-5, they still present a few players that could determine the outcome of this game.
Here are five Bears players to watch for.
QB Tyson Bagent
With Justin Fields out with a dislocated right thumb, the Bears will turn to Bagent, the undrafted rookie out of Division II Shepherd. Bagent made his NFL debut last weekend in Chicago’s win over the Raiders. He completed 21 of 29 pass attempts for 162 yards and a touchdown while adding 24 yards on the ground.
WR D.J. Moore
The Bears are one of the least pass-happy teams in the NFL, but this could be an opportunity to air it out, facing a Chargers pass defense that’s worst in the league. Specifically, their top target, Moore, could be in for a big game. He has 636 receiving yards on 40 receptions with five touchdowns.
RB D'Onta Foreman
Having Bagent, who is making only his second professional start, under center could mean that the Bears are going to look to run the ball to take some of the pressure off him. While the Chargers have been pretty stout against the run, they must keep that up against Foreman, who is coming off a three-touchdown performance on 120 total yards.
CB Jaylon Johnson
Justin Herbert will be eyeing this as a get-right game. But the Bears have a player in the secondary who will be looking to prevent that. Johnson, the fourth-year player, is one of the best cover corners in the league. He has the second-lowest passer rating among all cornerbacks in the league entering Week 8 (24.7). Johnson had two interceptions on Sunday against the Raiders, including a pick-6.
LB T.J. Edwards
One of the more significant signings by the Bears this past offseason was Edwards, who has been a stud in the middle of the defense. Edwards has been a tackling machine, ranking fourth in that category with 72. While he defends the run very well, Edwards has proven to be a reliable blitzer. He has four quarterback pressures and two sacks.
