The number of confirmed new cases rose on Tuesday after five days of steady decreases, and the coronavirus-related death toll was also up, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Wednesday.
There were 45 more Covid-19 fatalities and 5,633 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the CCSA said.
This did not include 5,652 positive results from antigen tests over the previous 24 hours. This would raise the total to 11,285.
The CCSA reported on Tuesday that confirmed new Covid-19 cases had declined for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, to 3,893 - down 1,345 from the day before - and was the lowest since Jan 4, before the Omicron variant outbreak. Figures released on Wednesday ended this trend.
As of midnight Tuesday, a total of 60,883 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 63,337 the previous day), including 23,432 in hospitals (down from 24,288). Of the remainder 10,282 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 10,465) and 26,841 in home/community isolation (down from 28,198).
Of those in hospital, 1,160 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 1,245) and 568 dependent on ventilators (down from 607).
Bangkok had the most seriously ill cases at 104, followed by 61 in Ubon Ratchathani, 55 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 51 in Udon Thani and 46 in Suphan Buri.
The 24-hour period also saw 8,042 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.
According to the CCSA, the 45 people who died were aged from two to 104 years and included one foeigner, an Australian.
Bangkok logged eight new deaths and there were three new fatalities in adjacent provinces - in Samut Prakan (2) and Pathum Thani (1).
Other central plains provinces further from the capital had 17 deaths - three each in Rayong and Uthai Thani, two each in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chanthaburi and Ratchaburi and one each in Saraburi, Nakhon Sawan, Trat, Phetchaburi and Samut Songkhram.
The North reported four deaths - two in Chiang Rai and one each in Chiang Mai and Phayao.
The Northeast saw 12 more coronavirus-related fatalities - three in Kalasin, two each in Buri Ram, Nakhon Ratchasima, Roi Et and Yasothon and one in Surin.
The South had one death, in Songkhla.
Of the 5,633 new cases over the 24 hours, there were 5,629 cases in the general population, three among prison inmates and one imported case from France.
Of the new infections in the general population, 5,624 were confirmed at hospitals and five via mass testing.
Bangkok continued to report the most daily cases at 2,488 followed by 204 in Surin, 187 in Buri Ram, 180 in Khon Kaen, 161 in Ubon Ratchathani, 113 in Chon Buri, 109 in Roi Et, 99 in Samut Prakan and 88 in Yasothon.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,388,610 Covid-19 cases, including 2,165,175 this year, with 4,298,132 complete recoveries to date.
The accumulated death toll stood at 29,595 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 7,897 so far this year.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 831,442 in 24 hours to 524.09 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,590 to 6.29 million.
The United States had the most cases at 84.47 million, up 75,368, and the most deaths at 1.02 million, up 305.
