An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 struck western Texas on Friday night, as reported by the United States Geological Survey. The seismic event occurred at 10:23 p.m. MT (11:23 p.m. CT) and had a depth of approximately 4.1 miles. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 33 miles northwest of Toyah, Texas, a town situated about 160 miles east of El Paso.
Shortly after the main quake, aftershocks were detected in the same vicinity by the USGS. The National Weather Service in El Paso confirmed feeling the earthquake, and reports indicate that tremors were also experienced in several cities in New Mexico, including Carlsbad, Roswell, and Las Cruces.
Despite the significant seismic activity, there have been no immediate reports of injuries in the affected area. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation, and the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office in Texas has been contacted for further information.
