The 49ers and long snapper Taybor Pepper agreed to a new contract on Saturday, but the veteran offensive lineman had fans thinking his time in San Francisco was up, at least for a short moment.
In a video Pepper produced and posted to social media, he made it seem as if if he was bidding the organization farewell before quickly changing the tune with a Leonardo DiCaprio Wolf of Wall Street clip and announcing that he's staying in town on a new three-year deal.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pepper and the Niners agreed to a three-year deal which included a guaranteed $1.5 million. The 28-year-old didn't hold back with his hilarious video celebration in the aftermath.
After suggesting his departure was on the horizon, writing, "In life, some chapters are meant to close," in his video, Pepper quickly revealed that he was, in fact, staying with the 49ers.
Although Pepper isn’t a household name, he’s played a crucial role on special teams for the 49ers in each of the past three seasons. Prior to joining the Niners, Pepper spent time with the Packers in 2017 and the Dolphins in 2019. He played in all 17 games for the 49ers this year.
The Michigan State standout has played five NFL seasons, featuring on a total of 556 special teams snaps and one offensive snap in his career. Clearly, the brass in San Francisco has seen enough to warrant a three-year extension, and Pepper had some fun with his announcement of his extended stay in The Bay.
