The 49ers on Saturday leading up to the NFC championship game announced a handful of roster moves, including the activation of running back Trenton Cannon off injured reserve.
This is great news considering Cannon went on IR after taking a hit to the head in Week 13 that forced him to be taken off the field in an ambulance. He’ll be a candidate to return kicks and contribute on special teams if he’s active.
San Francisco also elevated linebacker Mark Nzeocha and quarterback Nate Sudfeld from the practice squad. Nzeocha has been contributing on special teams, and NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco noted there’s no change to Jimmy Garoppolo or Trey Lance’s statuses for Sunday. Sufeld being on the active roster will earn him more money even though he’s set to be inactive.
The 49ers also waived WR River Cracraft who became expendable with Mohamed Sanu coming off IR. Cracraft was a special teams contributor only in six regular season and two postseason games.
