The 49ers on Wednesday continued their bye week roster moves. They added defensive lineman Akeem Spence to their practice squad just one day after releasing him from the active roster.
Spence played in five games while on San Francisco’s active roster. He didn’t start any contests, but he was a regular contributor in the defensive line rotation and played a season-high 37 snaps in Week 6 against the Falcons. Spence posted six tackles in his five games of work.
Injuries on the defensive line forced the 49ers to activate Spence from their practice squad, but with their health improving his roster spot became expendable. Still, having a veteran DL presence in the building is valuable for San Francisco in the event they experience more adversity with availability at that position.
