The Seattle Seahawks may play on Sunday against the New York Giants, but it will be a quick turnaround for their biggest showdown of the year: Thursday Night Football vs. the San Francisco 49ers on this coming Thursday. Seattle has lost the last five-straight games to San Francisco, and a large driving force for the 49ers’ recent success is superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, who has not played a snap this season so far.
Well, as of now, it does not appear Week 6 will be McCaffrey’s first action. It is being reported McCaffrey is not likely to be activated from the Injured Reserve list for Thursday night against the Seahawks.
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey won’t return for Thursday night’s game in Seattle in Week 6, when he is eligible to come off injured reserve, but there are some reasons for encouragement, per league sources.https://t.co/XBUVkkqQTT

If McCaffrey is not able to suit up, this will be a sizable break for Seattle. In his career against the Seahawks, McCaffrey has rushed for 579 yards and six touchdowns, while also terrorizing Seattle through the air with 263 receiving yards.
The Seahawks’ defense has performed considerably better this year, when healthy (ahem, Lions game). San Francisco still presents a formidable challenge, especially with running back Jordan Mason carrying the load in McCaffrey’s absence. Still, not having No. 23 in the lineup for the 49ers will benefit a Seahawks defense by having one less ultra-dynamic player to worry about.
But for now, the immediate worry for Seattle is taking care of business at home against the New York Giants.
