49ers RB Christian McCaffrey wins NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for the month of September. It’s the second time in his tenure with San Francisco that he’s taken home the award in only his third full month with the club.

McCaffrey picked up in 2023 where he left off in 2022 with a league-high 353 rushing yards along with three total touchdowns. He’s also second in the NFL in scrimmage yards with 423. Only Minnesota WR Justin Jefferson has more.

It’s notable that while McCaffrey has been superb, he’s yet to make a sizable statistical impact as a pass catcher. He has 11 catches for 70 yards in three games and hasn’t scored a TD through the air yet. However, his rushing production has been a huge reason the 49ers are 3-0 and scored 30 points in each of their first three games.

McCaffrey’s usage should probably tick down some if the team wants to keep him healthy and effective into late January or early February, but he won’t need many touches to still be an impact player. It wouldn’t be a surprise if there’s another Offensive Player of the Month award in his future.
