49ers practice report: TE George Kittle would have been out of 1st Super Bowl practice

The 49ers took Wednesday off as they gear up to begin on-field preparations for Super Bowl LVIII. Teams don’t treat the bye week before the big game as a typical bye where it’s a break from football. Instead it’s a week of preparation with a couple off days sprinkled in.

Wednesday was an off day, but teams are still required to release a practice report. Here’s San Francisco’s estimation of what a practice report would have looked like if they were on the field:

Did not participate

TE George Kittle (toe)

Kittle hurt his toe in the NFC championship game and is considered day-to-day. With an additional week before the game it’s not a huge surprise that San Francisco would be extremely careful with its star tight end. This isn’t a major worry for now, but it’s something to monitor once the team begins its practices in the week leading up to the game.

Limited participation

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

LB Oren Burks (shoulder)
CB Ambry Thomas (ankle)

Burks was questionable entering the NFC title game with a shoulder injury and played through it. It’s unclear what his status is moving forward, but the fact he would have been limited bodes well for his chances of playing in the Super Bowl. Thomas hurt his ankle against the Lions and is day-to-day.

Full participation

Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

DT Arik Armstead (knee, foot)
DT Kalia Davis (ankle)

Davis’ practice window was opened before the NFC championship. He could offer some interior defensive line depth, but the team will have to cut a player if they want to activate him.
