The first domino to fall between the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 came on a fourth-down punt. 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky had his punt blocked with under five minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Despite the Vikings opening the drive just outside the red zone, the 49ers defense stood strong. With the Vikings threatening on third-and-goal, Sam Darnold fired a pass to the back of the end zone for third-year wideout Jalen Nailor.
However, special teams ace George Odum was able to get his hand in a Darnold and Nailors window for a clutch pass breakup. Following Odum’s timely PBU, the Vikings were forced to settle for a field goal.
