The 49ers appear to have avoided a catastrophe with WR Deebo Samuel. An MRI on Monday revealed an MCL sprain, and the club expects him to return in the regular season per NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.
Samuel was listed as a non-participant in the projected practice report for Tuesday with knee and ankle injuries. He went down awkwardly in the second quarter of Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers and left the field on a cart.
The team confirmed there were no broken bones, and now an MRI confirmed there was no major damage that will keep him out for the final four weeks of the regular season.
It’s hard to imagine Samuel is ready to go on a short week with a game Thursday in Seattle, but with the NFC West race in the final stretch and possible playoff seeding on the line, having Samuel back even for the season finale against the Cardinals would be a significant boost for San Francisco as they aim to gear up for a playoff run.
