The 49ers addressed their need at kicker with their second third-round pick Friday night. They selected Michigan K Jake Moody. This is the first time they’ve taken a kicker since they picked K Jeff Chandler No. 102 overall in the 2002 draft.
Moody will now compete with Zane Gonzalez, who San Francisco acquired in a trade with the Panthers.
He kicked for five seasons with the Wolverines and made 69 of 84 field goal attempts. He also drilled all 148 of his extra point attempts. Moody’s also capable of handling kickoffs, which is imperative for San Francisco’s next placekicker.
This closes the door on Robbie Gould’s return, and the 49ers will have a real competition at kicker in training camp.
