49ers don’t know if QB Brock Purdy (shoulder) will start vs. Packers

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t sure if quarterback Brock Purdy will be able to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

Purdy is dealing with an injured right shoulder, and Lynch called the situation “tenuous” in terms of his availability for Sunday.

“We’ve had a plan to try and quiet it down,” Lynch told KNBR on Friday. “Wednesday didn’t do any throwing, just where out there and did practice. Thursday started to do some throwing and then went inside to do some rehab per the plan. We’ll see where he’s at today, hopefully he makes progress and we can have a shot at this weekend, but we’ll see. It is tenuous.”

The 49ers will provide a final injury report after practice and before flying to Green Bay on Friday.

Lynch said Purdy injured his shoulder at some point during last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He also said the 49ers did an MRI on Purdy’s shoulder to assess the damage.

Lynch said Brandon Allen would start at quarterback if Purdy can’t go on Sunday. Veteran Josh Dobbs would also be available to play at quarterback.

Purdy has started 31 consecutive games for the 49ers at quarterback, save for a healthy scratch in Week 17 with the 49ers playoff situation clinched last season.

The 49ers also aren’t sure if edge rusher Nick Bosa or left tackle Trent Williams will be able to go Sunday. Neither has practiced this week. Lynch said both will get the full week to get physically ready to play against the Packers.

“Obviously, those guys are big-time players, we’d love to have them, but if we don’t, we have to find a way to come up with a much-needed win,” Lynch said.
