49ers DE Nick Bosa becomes highest paid defensive player in NFL history

Every summer brings a training camp holdout story, as a star is in search of a new contract. Such has been the case with San Francisco’s elite defensive end Nick Bosa. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year sat out of 49ers training camp in hopes of a record-setting extension. It appears his efforts have paid off, literally.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, San Francisco has made Bosa a historically wealthy man.

Bosa has certainly proven he is worth the investment. In three of his four years in the league, Bosa has qualified for the Pro Bowl. The only exception was his injury shortened 2020 season. In what has essentially been three years of NFL action, the former Ohio State Buckeye has 43 career sacks, earned a spot on the All Pro roster last year, and I’ve already mentioned the whole “Defensive Player of the Year” aspect.

Unfortunately, this dashes any faint hopes fans of the Seattle Seahawks might’ve had with Bosa potentially no longer being in the division. Rumors swirled, as they often do, about Bosa potentially being traded away if the two sides could not come to terms. Instead, it appears Bosa will be in the City by the Bay for the foreseeable future.

Thankfully, the Seahawks have Abe Lucas and Charles Cross.
