49ers chief on American influence at Leeds United and input on Marsch, Aaronson, Adams arrivals

American arrivals at Leeds United in the form of Jesse Marsch, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams were not influenced by minority shareholders 49ers Enterprises. The link between the arrival of the head coach and two USA internationals and the San Francisco franchise has been an easy one to make for outsiders.

However, a fresh interview from the 49ers’ chief marketing officer has made it clear their countrymen were not brought in because of any undue San Francisco pressure. Alex Chang said the success of Marsch, Aaronson and Adams had proved serendipitous for the NFL shareholders.

The 49ers chief was speaking about the franchise’s newly-afforded marketing rights in the UK and how that freedom has dovetailed perfectly with their Leeds investment as well as the subsequent American success stories. Speaking to SportsPro Podcast, Chang said: “The American influence on Leeds is serendipitous, with us having these rights, the folks they signed during the off-season with Brenden and with Tyler.

“Again, serendipitous, we have nothing to do with that, but it's cool to have some American players there and then they're actually playing very well. Jesse's doing a great job as well.

"Having that connection is nice and if that helps us strengthen that connection between the two organisations, that's great, that helps. Our fans here in the US become Leeds fans because of that strong American connection. That's great too and we want to encourage that.”
