The 49ers aren’t bringing back cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, who agreed to a one-year deal worth $6 million with the Detroit Lions per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
General manager John Lynch at his end-of-season press conference indicated Moseley was a player the team was interested in re-signing, but Detroit wound up landing the veteran CB.
Moseley was playing the best football of his career last season before tearing his ACL in a Week 5 win over the Panthers. A one-year prove-it deal for the 26-year-old should give him the opportunity to cash in next year in free agency, provided he stays healthy.
San Francisco signed Moseley as an undrafted rookie before the 2018 season. He separated his shoulder just three snaps into his Week 9 debut and never returned that season. He was healthy in 2019 and eventually won the starting CB job for the NFC championship game and the Super Bowl, then missed four games in 2020 and another six in 2021 before having his 2022 campaign cut short by an ACL tear.
The emergence of Deommodore Lenoir as a viable outside CB made Moseley, a quality starter, expendable for San Francisco, which saw its hands tied some financially after shelling out a big money deal to defensive tackle Javon Hargrave shortly after the legal negotiating window opened.
In five years with the 49ers, Moseley played in 45 games with 33 starts. He posted 162 tackles, four interceptions and 33 pass pass breakups.
