49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward put himself in some elite company while listing his top/favorite cornerbacks in the NFL.
Ward was asked about this in an appearance on Arik Armstead’s podcast ‘Third and Long‘ and he wasn’t shy about divulging an answer. His own name wasn’t the first to come up, and he wasn’t the only 49er on the list.
It was clear the list wasn’t prepared so it’s easy to believe he might’ve left off some worthy players, and it also led to some of his explanations for players being a little short.
Nevertheless, here’s Ward’s list and what he had to say about each player:
Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs
What Ward said:
“I like Diggs, man because Diggs gonna get that ball. Trevon Diggs. I like (Daron) Bland too because those boys get them turnovers. I like those type of guys.”
Broncos CB Patrick Surtain II
What Ward said:
“Of course I like Pat Surtain. I feel like he’s one of the best young corners in the league, too.”
49ers CB Charvarius Ward
What Ward said:
“For sure me. I’m up there too.”
Jets CB Sauce Gardner
What Ward said:
“Sauce in New York. He’s pretty good.”
Bills CB Tre'Davious White
What Ward said:
“I like Tre’ White, man. He had a couple injuries lately. That’s one of my dawgs. I like watching him play because he’s real scrappy. Dawg ain’t scared of nobody, scared of nothing. So I love his game.”
49ers CB Deommodore Lenoir
What Ward said:
“D-Mo been ballin’ bro. He’s been playing inside and outside at a crazy high level. I’m like, ‘bro. You don’t understand, can’t many people in the NFL do that.’ Going into the game (against the Seahawks) he started at nickel. I got hurt on like the first or second play of the game. He bumps to outside corner and we didn’t even miss a beat. So, D-Mo’s definitely one of my favorite players in the league. That’s little bro. He’s a dawg.”
