The 49ers chances of clinching the NFC West with a Week 14 win were dashed Sunday when the Rams topped the Browns 36-19 at SoFi Stadium.
San Francisco with their win over the Eagles and Seattle’s loss to the Cowboys on Thursday would’ve had a chance to clinch their division with a Week 14 win over the Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium. The caveat was that the Rams would’ve had to lose in Weeks 13 and 14 against the Browns and Ravens, respectively.
Los Angeles took care of business at home with a win over Cleveland to keep themselves mathematically alive through at least Week 14.
A win against the Seahawks is still vital for the 49ers for a couple reasons. First, they’re still in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the NFC and they’ll likely need to win out to secure that top spot in the conference.
However, a win over the Seahawks eliminates them from division contention since the best they could do is finish with the same record as the 49ers and the 49ers would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
If San Francisco takes care of business they should still have the division crown wrapped up in the next couple weeks. That’s a subplot though in their quest for the No. 1 seed in the NFC, which figures to be a heated race down the stretch between the 49ers, Eagles, Lions and Cowboys.
