49ers’ Brock Purdy reacts to being called a game manager

For much of the NFL regular season, and now leading into the Super Bowl, Brock Purdy’s name has been at the center of the “game manager” conversation.

Whether the San Francisco 49ers young signal-caller is a “game manager” or “system quarterback” has been discussed as Purdy has led his team to an appearance in the Super Bowl.

Prior to the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, Purdy was asked about being labeled as a game manager.

I feel like it can be a compliment at times where it’s like, alright, you’ve got a guy that can come in and run the system well. I feel like that’s a compliment. You’re doing things right mentally, you’re good enough to hit guys that are open and make plays. There’s 32 teams in the NFL and there’s not a lot of people that can come in and play the quarterback position well in the NFL. It’s a hard job. So, if you’re saying that I’m a game manager and I don’t look flashy in how I do it, that’s your opinion and that’s OK and at the end of the day I want to do what it takes to help my team win. I think winning, at the end of the day, in the NFL is probably the biggest and most important thing.

On his way to his first Super Bowl appearance in only his second season, Purdy has passed for 4280 yards and 31 touchdowns in his sophomore campaign.

Purdy will suit up for his first Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 11 in Las Vegas against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
