San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk caught passes from quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo before they left San Francisco, but he felt like it was an “easy question” when asked who he preferred.
“It’s really an easy question, bro,” Aiyuk said on Instagram Live. “I’ll go Trey Lance.”
Both quarterbacks, who had their fair share of struggles in the Bay Area, no longer play for the 49ers as they moved on before the 2023 season. Lance was acquired by the Dallas Cowboys in August, while Garoppolo signed a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders last March.
The 49ers stuck with Brock Purdy as their starter for the 2023 season, and he led the team all the way to Super Bowl LVIII.

Aiyuk’s answer shouldn’t shock 49ers fans, though, as the receiver used to work out with Lance in the offseason. Ahead of the 2022 campaign when Lance was named San Francisco’s starter, Aiyuk and Lance often worked out together in Southern California and really “connected.”
Aiyuk didn’t elaborate what his relationship with Lance is like now, but it sounds like that quarterback-receiver bond was special to him.
