49ers, Bills Record Season’s Longest Receiving Touchdowns An Hour Apart

The Bills and 49ers’ rollercoaster seasons were curiously linked in Week 11 after the two teams unknowingly traded season-highs in their respective games on Sunday.

With both teams competing in the late-afternoon slate of action, Buffalo and San Francisco each capitalized on a chance to set a standard for the season’s longest receiving touchdown after turning in exciting displays of offense on a pair of electrifying scoring plays.

The Niners struck first with a monster 76-yard TD pass from quarterback Brock Purdy to receiver Brandon Aiyuk to take a 20–7 lead over the Buccaneers. Roughly an hour after the clip of the insane play hit the internet, however, the top mark was seized by Josh Allen and the Bills, thanks to a dazzling score of their own.

Aiyuk’s score, which was posted on X at 5:42 p.m. ET, was outdone by an 81-yard Allen bomb to receiver Khalil Shakir against the Jets. Amazingly, the video’s timestamp on the video clocked in at 6:46 p.m. ET, confirming the Bills’ scorching connection as the superior score of the day with two games remaining on the Week 11 schedule.

Will Vikings-Broncos or Chiefs-Eagles in primetime break the mark again? The answer will come Monday night. But for now, the bragging rights, for however long they last, belong to Allen and Buffalo.

Sorry, 49ers fans.
