Plans for £47 million worth of improvements for Nottinghamshire's highways have been given the green light by councillors. A total of 381 individual road, footway and drainage schemes are planned across the county, with just over £22 million of the funds allocated to improving the county's roads and other highway assets.
The proposals were approved at Nottinghamshire County Council’s transport and environment committee on Wednesday, March 23. It comes as part of its cross-party highways review, which began on June 15 after being promised by the leader, Mansfield MP Ben Bradley, in the last election manifesto.
Councillor Neil Clarke, chairman of the committee, said that the schemes have been designed to "reflect local and national priorities". “Local residents can expect an increase in spend on footway improvements and drainage repairs," he said. "We are also completing our LED lighting programme with a further 12,000 streetlights being upgraded and finally additional funding of £12m over the next four years for structural patching repairs.

“The schemes in the agreed funding have been designed to reflect local and national priorities. All County Council Members last year were asked to submit their highest priority suggestions so they could be considered for inclusion. The investment is also part of our strategy to support the local economy, promote health and wellbeing and ensure communities thrive.”
Of the remaining cash, £4.8m is allocated to integrated transport schemes such as pedestrian crossings, £5.4m is for to deliver the traffic management revenue programme and £14.6m was for the delivery of the Gedling Access Road and other schemes. Councillors also received an additional update in the committee meeting that an extra £4.7m funding allocation from the Dft has been approved to use on its Active Travel projects, which include cycle lanes and footways.

£25k-50k Joint replacement to Newark Railway Bridge
- £100K-150K concrete repairs to Sutton Crossroads Railway Bridge
- Puffin crossing in Beckingham Road, Coddington
- Cycle parking in Ruddington village centre
- Resurfacing of roads such as George Street (Hucknall), Mill Lane (Kirkby in Ashfield), Canberra Crescent (West Bridgford) and Vincent Avenue (Beeston)
