A woman has died in the Northern Territory community of Lajamanu after what police are alleging was a domestic violence stabbing. Detectives are currently investigating the death, and one arrest has been made.
A statement from NT Police confirmed that at around 6:20pm last night, a report of a seriously injured 42-year-old woman was made, stating that a large crowd was present at the scene.
“Police attended the location and the woman was declared deceased a short time later,” read the statement.
“It is believed she was stabbed with an edged weapon.”
According to the report, the woman’s 46-year-old male partner was then arrested at a nearby location. Police disclosed that prior to being arrested, the man was allegedly assaulted by “unknown community members.”
He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is in police custody.
“The 46-year-old is expected to be charged in relation to the death later this evening,” said NT Police.
Two crime scenes have been established, and no individuals have been publicly identified yet.
Investigations are ongoing, and will be coordinated by the NT Police’s Major Crime detectives.
