The Jacksonville Jaguars will provide some answers about their plans at wide receiver in the next few weeks. With Calvin Ridley set to become a free agent and Zay Jones considered by some to be in danger of being released, the Jaguars may have holes to fill in the 2024 NFL draft.
Even if both Ridley and Jones are on the roster in the fall, the Jaguars still may be interested in adding another weapon to an offense that had plenty of miscues last season.
During a conference call Thursday, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah was asked which receivers would be a good fit in the Jacksonville offense and four names came to his mind:
Adonai Mitchell (Texas)
Mitchell, a 6’4, 196-pound playmaker, caught 11 touchdown passes in his sole season with the Longhorns.
“[Mitchell] would be one that I think would factor in there,” Jeremiah said. “Buckle up for his combine. He’ll put on a show. He is going to fly and he is going to jump out of the gym.”
Keon Coleman (Florida State)
The next player named by Jeremiah is one who may be familiar to fans in Jacksonville.
“Coleman has kind of some freaky ball skills,” he said. “He can really contort himself and adjust down the field. Kind of a physical guy.”
Xavier Legette (South Carolina)
While receiver may be a need for the Jaguars in April, will it be the top priority? If not, Jeremiah has another idea.
“If you want to go down into that next tier, you could start getting Xavier Legette from South Carolina could be one of those guys,” Jeremiah said.
Brian Thomas Jr. (LSU)
The Jaguars value versatility and Doug Pederson loves a receiver that can give him the luxury to be creative. Thomas could be the perfect fit for that.
“I wrote on my notes on him ‘death by slot fade,'” Jeremiah said of Thomas. “Jayden Daniels hit him on a bunch of those. He is somebody that can play inside, outside, and play on the ball, off the ball. You name it, he can do everything.”
