4 Ways To Style Nike’s New Crinkle Free Button Down, According To A Stylist

Just last week, Nike launched its 24.7 collection, an effortlessly cool range of pants, button-ups, skirts and jumpers that blur the line between workout wear, athleisure and smart casual to take you from the gym to the daily grind with ease.

With the launch comes new technical materials that pair with the brand’s industry-leading Dri-FIT technology to offer something Nike’s never done before. You can read our full rundown of the collection here.

There’s a whole bunch of pieces in the range, but I’m predicting that everyone is going to be OBSESSED with the 24.7 PerfectStretch Woven Shirt. It’s probably the most versatile piece in the range and perfect for those chasing a capsule wardrobe.

It’s made from Nike’s new PerfectStretch fabric that’s a blend of four-way-stretch and Nike’s famous Dri-Fit fabrication. It’s sleek, sweat-wicking and tailored, so you can wear it all day long, no matter what the weather.

There’s also a really awesome crinkle-free element to the fabric that means no matter how many times you shove it in your gym bag, it won’t crease like your linens usually would.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the 24.7 PerfectStretch Woven Shirts when they dropped and caught up with Nike stylist Jade Leung to learn a few ways to style the button-up that isn’t just my go-to open-shacket look.

“The collection really mixes that quiet luxury feel with a touch of sport and tailoring that has had a huge presence on the runways in the past few seasons,” explains Jade.

“The 24.7 Perfect Stretch Woven shirt is the perfect travel shirt — from being worn oversized and open with jeans on the plane, I can go straight to dinner or a meeting by buttoning it up for a more tailored look. The four-way stretch means it can remain crease-free through a bit of travel and is light and easy to pack,” says Jade.

Here are a few styles we walked through:

The open button-up

Starting out super simple with an open button-up. You can pretty much throw on the Woven Shirt with just about any look to add a more elevated touch. My 5am-9am is working as a Pilates teacher before my 9am-5pm, so I love wearing it over a matching set to my classes to look a little more polished in the studio before heading to meetings or the home office. I feel put together enough for work in both places and since the top hardly creases, I look a little more schmick than if I just threw on one of my linen button-ups.

Depending on your daily activities, you can choose to pair it with some slides or sneakers. Plus, it looks super cute thrown over some baggy jeans and a crop top, too.

We love layers

As we start to head into some more transeasonal weather, I have a feeling the button-up/jumper combo is going to make a comeback. This look you can either pair with bike shorts if it’s hotter out or some tailored pants if winter is really kicking it. You can keep it paired with bike shorts when it’s warmer out or opt for some pants in the cooler months.

I’ve actually utilised two pieces from the 24.7 range: the 24.7 Perfect Stretch Woven Shirt and the PerfectStretch Dri-FIT High-Waisted Loose Wide-Leg Trousers for a more casual corporate look.

The twist and tuck

I owe this look solely to Jade’s skills. She taught me the twist and tuck. I like that you can basically do it with any kinda bottom — jeans, shorts, skirts, tailored pants, a cargo pant, you name it. It’s also super easy to pull off. You simply leave the shirt open, take one tail end, loosely twist it and tuck it into the opposite side of your pants, repeat on the other side and then tuck the back up into the back of your pants and pull it out just a touch. You can peep a video of me styling it like this here.

One button is all it takes

This one is also a cool but casual way to wear a more athleisure style while still looking put together. Jade had me pair the tailored trousers with the white button-up, a Nike crop top and a pair of sneakers. This feels like a Friday fit that I could pull off in the PEDESTRIAN.TV office and switch out my sneakers for some heels to take me to dinner and drinks with the girls. I like the edgy, boyfriend-fit style.

By doing up only the top button, you can still see I have some shape under all the baggy clothes, and it adds a touch of feminity to an otherwise pretty masculine look. The crop and sneakers also give you the option of adding some pops of colour to the fit. Nike just dropped these two-woned sneakers that are fucking sick and would look so good with this.

As you can see, even just the one piece from this collection is super versatile. It’s the perfect addition to any capsule wardrobe. As Jade points out, we want multi-wear pieces that pull double duty.

“As our lives seem to get busier, I think there is a real hunger for simplicity in our lives, which can be seen in Aussies moving towards the ‘Ath-life’ lifestyle. This collection by Nike is the perfect example of how to curate a wardrobe that can cater to your class in the morning to your first work meeting through polished fabrications and classic silhouettes,” says Jade.

Now this is, of course, just a few pieces from the new 24.7 range, there’s also a really cool pleated skirt that the fashion girlies are going to EAT up. “The pleats give it that tailored feel that means it can be dressed up with a leather lace-up or dressed down with a cute Impossibly Soft Crewneck and your favourite Nike Sneakers,” says Jade.

But if she had to pick one favourite piece, Jade claims it’s a tie between the button-up and the tailored pants. “I love the drapes and fabrication of the pants, the perfect mix of sport and tailoring. I also love the hidden pockets because I’ve always got random bits of ribbon/safety pins on me while on set. And the shirt in white is the perfect wardrobe staple that I can throw on and still look put together and polished,” says Jade.
