In the midst of escalating violence in Rafah, a tragic incident involving a 4-month-old baby has highlighted the dire situation faced by residents in the region. The only functioning hospital in Rafah, the Kuwait Specialized Hospital, has been inundated with casualties over the past 24 hours.
According to reports, 35 bodies, including that of nine children, were brought to the hospital, with the majority of the deceased being in their 20s and 30s. In addition to the fatalities, 129 injured individuals were also rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Despite its best efforts, the Kuwait Specialized Hospital is facing significant challenges due to its limited capabilities and size. The hospital's media officer, Saber Muhammad, issued a warning stating that the facility is ill-equipped to handle a large influx of casualties.
The situation has been exacerbated by the closure of the Al-Najjar Hospital, which was forced to shut down after Israeli forces declared eastern Rafah a red zone. As a result, the Kuwait Specialized Hospital has become the sole operational medical facility in the area.
Field hospitals in Rafah are also struggling to cope with the overwhelming number of patients. Doctors Without Borders announced that they are preparing for a possible evacuation by discharging patients from the Rafah Indonesian Field Hospital.
Meanwhile, the European Gaza Hospital located east of Khan Younis has been receiving casualties from Rafah, including victims of artillery shelling. The hospital staff are working tirelessly to provide medical assistance to those in need during this challenging time.
The escalating violence in Rafah has resulted in a humanitarian crisis, with innocent civilians, including children, bearing the brunt of the conflict. The international community is urged to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in the region.
