£4 hay fever 'cure' makes you 'feel like you've never had it'

Shoppers have praised a hay fever tablet they think is a ‘miracle cure’.

Allevia, an over-the-counter medication, has proved popular online as hay fever season arrives across the UK. Around one in four people suffer from hay fever each year, over 16 million people, reports WalesOnline.

There are two types of hay fever, seasonal and perennial; Seasonal hay fever usually occurs during the time of year in which plants produce more pollen, while perennial hay fever is year round. If you usually begin suffering from hay fever in the spring, the likelihood is you are allergic to plant pollens. To treat this type, patients are often recommended to use nasal sprays and antihistamines.

With the pollen count now high, many are turning to Allevia after glowing reviews online. The tablets, which claim to provide relief from symptoms for up to 24 hours, were previously only available on prescription up until 2021, when they were re-classified. It means they are now available on general sale and available in most supermarkets and chemists.

TikTok users have heaped praise on the hay fever treatment, which is priced at £3.70 for seven tablets at Boots. Among the reviews, Ben Newmark said: "He hadn't felt this good in the summer for a decade".

Matty Ester wrote: "I have gone from having the worst hay fever you will ever see anyone have in your whole life, to feeling like I’ve never had it. Allevia, you have cured me."

@Nikk1noodles said: "Fexofenadine aka Allevia 120mg over the counter at Boots. Took a couple of days to kick in but this week I've been hay fever-free. No itching, no eye drops, no nasal sprays. 10/10 would recommend."

Allevia’s product description said: “Relieves symptoms associated with hay fever including: sneezing, itchy, runny, blocked nose and itchy, watery and red eyes.” The tablets are said to relieve symptoms within one hour and last for 24 hours.

Allevia is also available at Superdrug, B&M, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and most supermarkets and chemists. It is priced at £3.70 for seven tablets at Boots - you can shop it here.
