4 free-agent WRs the Panthers should consider signing

While the Carolina Panthers certainly need themselves a new quarterback, they could also use some guys he (whoever that eventually is) can throw to. So, let’s take a look at the open market.

Here are four soon-to-be free-agent wide receivers the Panthers should consider adding.

Mecole Hardman

The Panthers are searching for speed at the wideout position, and they don’t get much speedier than this guy. Hardman, who runs a 4.3 40-yard dash, can take the top of a defense—something Carolina has lacked on a consistent basis for quite some time.

While his receiving numbers won’t jump out at you—and may be somewhat disappointing considering the offense he’s played for—his ability to open up an offense will. His experience as a returner should also appeal to the Panthers, who haven’t nailed down that role in a while either.

DJ Chark

Chark also has the ability keep defenses honest.

The 2019 Pro Bowler, despite a rocky last couple of seasons, is still a lethal deep threat. His average of 16.7 yards per catch ranked fifth amongst all qualifiers in 2022.

Parris Campbell

Similarly to Hardman, Campbell’s career numbers aren’t exactly inspiring. But what he can do in head coach Frank Reich’s system is.

Reich will look to utilize plenty of mesh concepts in his offense, which would suit Campbell’s blend of sizzling speed and sharp footwork rather well. With some consistent play under center and more weapons around him, the former second-round pick could turn into the potent slot receiver Reich and the Colts drafted him to be.

Mack Hollins

Reich is also familiar with Hollins, who was a member of the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. And along with some downfield presence, this 6-foot-4, 221-pounder can also bring some much needed length to the position.

Hollins is coming off a career year with the Las Vegas Raiders—having notched bests in receptions (57), receiving yards (690) and touchdowns (four). His addition wouldn’t elevate the receiving corps alone—but his size, deep game and special teams prowess make for a package worth investing in.
