August was a good month for the sport of boxing.
Teofimo Lopez returned to form with a TKO victory over Pedro Campa, and Oleksandr Usyk defeated Anthony Joshua for the second time in as many fights.
That said, September’s fights will be even better.
Beginning this Sunday, each weekend of the month will provide fans the treat of watching some of the very best fighters that the sport has to offer.
Ready to see a third Canelo-GGG fight? It’s on the way. Want to see two heavyweights try to take one another’s head off? Ruiz-Ortiz will take care of that. Or maybe you’ll be tuning into Shields-Marshall to see two of the best women boxers in the world.
Boxing will have you covered this month.

Sep. 4: Andy Ruiz Jr. (-420) vs. Luis Ortiz (+270)
At age 43, Luis Ortiz is what we call a seasoned vet. The Cuban native has seen it all throughout his 25-fight career, Deontay Wilder has proven to be the only test Ortiz couldn’t ace. Two losses to The Bronze Bomber aside, Ortiz’s resume is otherwise clean. And when he fights Andy Ruiz on September 4th, the southpaw will be in pursuit of win No. 34 and KO No. 29.
Andy Ruiz’s resume is similar. At 34-2-0, his only two defeats have come at the hands of Anthony Joshua (in a rematch) and a then-undefeated Joseph Parker. Beyond those two, Ruiz has had his share of moments in the ring, including stopping Anthony Joshua in a stunning TKO win back in 2019.
Expect some haymakers in this one and for someone to hit the canvas. Who? Your call.
Sep. 10: Claressa Shields (-103) vs. Savannah Marshall (-133)
The two best middleweights in women’s boxing are getting ready to slug it out on September 10th.
Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall are both 12-0. The difference is Shields has just two knockouts, while the hard-hitting Marshall is already up to 10 in her career.
The question is: does this fight go the distance? If it does, Shields could be in good shape. If not, Marshall might have landed a big shot.
Sep. 17: Canelo Alvarez (-650) vs. Gennady Golovkin (+360)
A Canelo-GGG trilogy? A Canelo-GGG trilogy.
Fights 1 and 2 were both great, even with some people taking issue with the scorecards. But there’s no pessimism that Part 3 won’t be as good.
Although, Golovkin is 40 years of age and Canelo is coming off his first loss since his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in 2013. So, perhaps this bout will provide a little bit of uncertainty.
The fight should tilt in Canelo’s favor given he has youth on his side, but the outcomes of the previous two bouts between the two haven’t painted Canelo to be the clear favorite.
We’ll see what happens this month on the 17th.
Sep. 23: Shakur Stevenson (-1600) vs. Robson Conceicao (+600)
A fight between Conceicao and Stevenson shouldn’t be close. As you can probably tell by the odds, Stevenson is the better fighter. In fact, he is the best Super Featherweight in the world.
Conceicao is no slouch, however. His 17-1 record illustrates the fighter’s been throughout his career. But the 18-0 Stevenson is entering the prime of his career and should be able to outclass his opponent.
