An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 struck the Los Angeles region on Monday afternoon, according to the US Geological Survey. The epicenter of the quake was located near Barstow, California, approximately 103 miles northeast of Los Angeles. The earthquake occurred at a depth of nearly five miles.

The initial report of the earthquake indicated a magnitude of 5.1, but it was later downgraded by the USGS. Following the main quake, there were subsequent tremors, including ones with magnitudes of 3.5 and 2.7.

The USGS ShakeAlert system was activated, notifying residents in the affected areas. The earthquake was felt across most of Southern California, with reports of shaking reaching as far east as Las Vegas, Nevada.

At the Warner Bros. Discovery offices in Burbank, about 115 miles southwest of the epicenter, employees experienced the quake as a slow roll that intensified over approximately 20 seconds.

The seismic activity serves as a reminder of the earthquake-prone nature of the region and the importance of preparedness for such events. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
