39 people arrested at Creamfields as 209 crimes reported

Police made 39 arrests at this year's Creamfields North festival in Daresbury.

A statement issued by Cheshire Constabulary on Tuesday said the arrests related to "numerous offences". A force spokeswoman said officers also spoke to 71 visitors in relation to possessing drugs and they were ejected from the site to be dealt with via the justice system at a later date.

There were also 42 festival-goers dealt with via "local resolution". Although they were not arrested Cheshire Police said these individuals were recorded as being involved in drugs.

The spokeswoman said Creamfields is Cheshire's biggest event and police worked closely with organisers and other agencies to make it "as safe as possible and limit any adverse impact on the local community".

She said the festival involved a "significant policing operation" over the Bank Holiday weekend and during the planning phase.

A total of 209 crimes were reported for a variety offences - the most common being drug-related at 135.

Creamfields has traditionally taken place in Daresbury and was recently rebranded Creamfields North to coincide with the launch of Creamfields South in Chelmsford.

Superintendent Heath added: “This year around 69,000 people attended Creamfields 2022 between Thursday and Monday.

"It’s a huge undertaking and we worked with event organisers and security staff in a bid to prevent illegal drugs from getting into the site.

“There were drugs dogs at entrances and opportunities for illegal substances and weapons to be placed in surrender bins along with an extensive search process by security personnel at entrances to the site.

“A conscious effort was made to target those who were intent on supplying illegal substances at the event – which accounted for more than half of the arrests made – while we made use of other options available to us, such as community resolutions, for lower level offences.

“All of those who were arrested and are being investigated for drug offences will now have to face the consequences and pay the price for their actions.”

Police also announced on Tuesday afternoon that a 25-year-old woman from Neath in South Wales died in the early hours of Tuesday morning after falling ill at the festival on Friday evening and being taken to Warrington Hospital.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Superintendent Sarah Heath, who led the policing operation for Cheshire Police for Creamfields 2022, said: “The tragic death of a young woman is heart-breaking and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.

“An investigation into the cause of her death is under way but at this stage there is nothing to suggest that there are any suspicious circumstances.”

National Highways also issued a plea to festival goers on Friday to take care after a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on an M56 slip road at junction 11 Preston Brook close to the festival site on Thursday afternoon.
