A 38-year-old man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged unauthorised access of the NSW courts website, including nearly 9000 sensitive court documents like apprehended violence orders and affidavits.
In March, the State Crime Command’s Cybercrime Squad commenced a probe into the unauthorised access to sensitive documents held by the NSW Department of Community and Justice (DCJ) Online Registry Website. It’s believed the files were accessed over two months between 29 January and 20 March 2025.
According to police, the source of the compromise was subsequently identified as an account linked to the registered user of the website.

Police executed a search warrant in Maroubra at around 6.30am on Wednesday, 23 April, where they located and seized two laptops during the search.
The 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Maroubra Police Station. He was charged with access/modify restricted data held in computer, as well as use carriage service to menace/harass/offend and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal) relating to an outstanding warrant.
The man was refused bail and will appear in Waverley Local Court on Thursday, 24 April.
Acting NSW Attorney-General Ron Hoenig said he had been assured by the Department of Community and Justice that “the matter is contained and the system is stable”, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.

“At this stage, no information has been detected on the internet or the dark web,” Hoenig said.
“To date, no people protected by AVOs or ADVOs have been identified as being at increased risk of harm due to the data breach.”
