33rd annual Ballet Under the Stars comes to Lexington's Woodland Park

Woodland Park in Lexington is the spot for dancing through this weekend. It’s the 33rd rendition of “Ballet Under the Stars.”

Those gathering on blankets or collapsible chairs will be treated to performances from the young and a bit older. Mindy Stone is a recreation manager for the Parks’ Cultural Arts Department. Stone said the first show will feature young dancers ages seven to 18.

“And every night there is a pre-show which is the storybook ballet this year and they’ll be dances and music inspired by different stories and you’ll see some of your favorite characters from Encanto and Frozen Two,” said Stone.

Stone said there are more than 90 dancers participating in that program.

“Children who attend all kinds of different dance programs in Lexington and surrounding counties. So, it’s a great community event. A lot of them come back year after year to perform with us,” said Stone.

Professional ballet by the Kentucky Ballet Theater gets going at nine.

On Friday and Saturday nights, there will also be tea party activities for kids two to eight.

Stone said tickets are nine dollars with children three and under getting in free. If rainy weather comes along, any cancelation messaging would be placed on the Lexington Parks and Recreation website.
