With the 2023 NFL draft just a couple of weeks away the Cleveland Browns are wrapping up pre-draft visits. One position of weakness that needs to be addressed is the depth at both safety and nickel cornerback.
Illinois safety Jartavius Martin could be the perfect prospect as a player that played a ton in the slot and as a deep free safety. Currently, the team doesn’t have a true slot defender on the roster, and only one free safety in Juan Thornhill.
Martin has great size and physicality to make an impact against the run from the slot which is much at the next level. He is sticky in man coverage with good ball skills and a nose for the football. He has good reactive quickness to go with his ability to track the ball in the air.
Martin is best in the slot, close to the line of scrimmage where he can use his strength and physicality. But if you need him to play as a deep safety blanket he does that at a decent level with a high football IQ to diagnose what is happening in front of him quickly.
