A three-year-old girl died in a fire Monday in the village of Adama near the community settlement of Klil in northern Israel.

The girl, identified in Israeli media reports as Libby Kalich, came with her family from Petah Tikva. She and her brother, Alon, were autistic children the family had adopted. They had been staying at a rooming house in Adama when the fire occurred.

Libby was trapped in one of the rooms that caught fire and firefighters dispatched to the scene were unable to save her in time.

Her parents were also in the house at the time and were rescued, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. The father is in moderate condition while the girl’s mother, who worked at Sheba Medical Center’s Institute for Child Development at Tel Hashomer, is in critical condition.

Alon, however, was unharmed.

Magen David Adom medics evacuated Libby’s mother to Haifa’s Rambam Health Care Campus and her father to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya for treatment.

Welfare workers are in contact with the family to provide needed assistance, Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg said, according to Walla.

Firefighters battling the blaze prevented it from spreading to nearby homes. A warehouse reportedly caught fire but the fire was extinguished.
