3 Victor Wembanyama preseason highlights vs. Houston that defied our understanding of hoops

Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, somehow continues to exceed expectations on the court for the San Antonio Spurs.

The big man was billed as the best prospect in the history of team sports, and while it is far too early to make such a statement, he already looks like he has that kind of potential.

Even with the small sample size that we have so far, every moment he is on the court opens the door for fans to see something they have never seen done before on a basketball court.

He showed as much during his preseason debut against the Thunder, and then again against the Heat, and now once more facing the Rockets. Here were the best moments:

1
He somehow dribbled THROUGH the legs of Reggie Bullock

Perhaps the most special skill of Wembanyama is his ability to play on-ball despite his 7-foot-4 frame. But the creativity and boldness to even attempt a dribble move like this simply makes no sense.

2
He completed the most jaw-dropping pass from the baseline

Go ahead and watch this video ten times and tell me you can comprehend any element of what you just watched. He used all of his flexibility to save the ball from going out of bounds, then completed a no-look pass to Devin Vassell who was spotting up in the corner. WHAT?!

3
He looked impossible to stop on this cut to the basket

There is one word that immediately comes to mind when watching this particular highlight: Unguardable. Usually, it will take even the tallest and most athletic player some time to lift up from the ground to throw down a dunk. But with him, it was nearly immediate. Good luck to the entire NBA.
