Colak has presence
The big striker started in the lone forward role for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side at Bloomfield Road. With Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe still recovering from long-term injuries, the addition of the Croatian hitman appears to be a vital one for the Light Blues. It’s been said that Colak will have no issue in scoring against some of the lesser teams in Scotland. His big presence was certainly something noticeable during his time on the pitch today. It definitely looks like a useful attribute that he’ll be able to bring to the domestic matches for the Gers. He did get on the scoresheet, but was adjudged to have been offside.
New boys off the bench
Fellow new players Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo also got their first run out in a Rangers jersey. The pair were subbed on with around 25-minutes remaining. Both play in the attacking areas, with Matondo more of a winger on either the left or right, and Lawrence a No.10. That’s certainly the roles they filled during their time on the pitch today. Both players have only been in the door for a week, so it’s difficult to make any sort of judgements at this stage. This was just about getting some minutes under their belts and to allow for some integration time with their new teammates.
Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside
It’s been a while since the club were able to make a pre-season trip to Blackpool due to Covid and travel rules. For Rangers fans, there’s no doubt they were in full holiday mode as they enjoyed the sunshine and watched their team face the Championship opposition. Pre-season serves a purpose for the manager and his staff, and most importantly the players as they get physically prepared for a long season ahead. But for the supporters, a trip to Blackpool is surely something they’d love to have on an annual basis? It's a popular one among the Gers faithful. They enjoyed their latest visit, that’s for sure.
