3 talkers as Rangers put St Mirren to the sword to keep pace in title race

Colak is a goal machine

The big Croatian is on fire. His form has been mightily impressive since he joined the Ibrox club, particularly on the domestic stage. He took his tally for the season up to 13 goals. Borna Barisic let rip from range, with his shot crashing off the post. Colak was on hand to tap home though. Right place at the right time springs to mind. He seems to have a knack of that. On his second, he finished superbly with the outside of his right foot after some neat work down the right wing by Fashion Sakala.

Interesting changes to starting XI

It has been unlike van Bronckhorst to make too many changes to his starting line-up since arriving at the club almost 12-months ago. Sometimes it appears to be exactly what is needed to inject some much-required freshness and somewhat of a bounce to the team when things seem to be flat. That’s what the Dutchman did ahead of this one. He started with Sakala out wide after the Zambian impressed as a substitute versus Liverpool midweek. Ryan Jack also came in from the start, as Rabbi Matondo was also afforded the chance to start again. Sakala notched the goal his showing deserved.

Maintaining the pace at the summit

Rangers would have been incredibly buoyed if Celtic had dropped points late against St Johnstone in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday. However, a late Giorgos Giakoumakis strike meant that it was as you were for the Glasgow giants. This put the pressure back on to Rangers in the title race. And they dually responded with a comfortable afternoon against the Buddies. The gap remains at two-points at the top of the Premiership table. The margins between the teams are very thin as we edge towards mid-October. It will likely be nip-and-tuck all the way to the finishing line.
