3 reasons to pick the 49ers to win the Super Bowl

The San Francisco 49ers make their third trip to the Super Bowl in 11 years to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super bowl LVII. It is the Chiefs’ fourth trip to the Super Bowl in five years. They have won two of their previous three appearances.

The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and will air on CBS.

The Niners are favorites in the game.

The NFL Wire editors overwhelmingly pick the Chiefs to win the game. We made the case as to why you should pick the Chiefs to win.

Now we give you the reasons why you should pick the 49ers.

Brock Purdy wins in the postseason

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (13) throws a pass against the Arizona Cardinals during the second quarter at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Dec. 17, 2023.

Purdy’s only loss in the postseason in two seasons was when he injured his elbow and couldn’t finish the game in last year’s NFC Championship Game.

The San Fran pass rush

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

In the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa sacked Patrick Mahomes three times and hit him nine times. The pass rush was the difference.

The Niners have the potential to give Mahomes problems. Nick Bosa had 10.5 sacks in the regular season. He had two in the NFC Championship Game. Javon Hargrave had seven in the regular season.

Takeaways

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers have forced 3 turnovers in the postseason. Their defense has taken the ball away from opponents in four straight games and in 15 games this season.
