3 Reasons Chicago Bulls should start Jevon Carter at point guard

The Chicago Bulls‘ point guard position has been in question for a while now. Ever since Lonzo Ball went down with an injury 35 games into his Bulls tenure, Chicago hasn’t had a definitive answer at the one. They’ve tested out some different options, but none of them have stuck long-term.

This summer, they brought in veteran point guard Jevon Carter, who is slated to help the Bulls on both ends of the court. The Bulls signed the Chicago native to a three-year deal after a career year with the Milwaukee Bucks last season, and he should play big-time minutes for them this year.

But with guys like Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, and Alex Caruso in town, the starting job is up for grabs. That said, here are three reasons Carter should be the Bulls’ starting point guard next year.

3. Steady presence at the point guard spot

Christopher Creveling-USA TODAY Sports

As the Bulls have tested out different looks at the point guard, their stars haven’t been able to get a consistent feel for the guys running the offense. Rolling with Carter in the starting spot and sticking with him will allow their starters to find a rhythm throughout the season.

2. Elite defensive presence

Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

Despite his 6-foot-1 frame, Carter has been an elite perimeter defender ever since his days at West Virginia. Though Caruso could also provide the Bulls with defense, Carter’s play on that end combined with this next point is enough to earn him the starting job.

1. Three-point shooting

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

This is the biggest reason why Carter should be the Bulls’ full-time starter. Not only is he the best three-point shooter of all the team’s starting point guard options, but he might be the best shooter on the entire roster. He shot 42.1% from deep on 4.2 three-point attempts last year, and that should be a huge help for a Bulls team that was one of the worst shooting teams in the league last year.
