The San Antonio Spurs have taken a perfect approach to this offseason. After drafting Victor Wembanyama, they kept their young core in place while also acting as a facilitator for other teams to make deals, allowing them to snag picks and add veterans to the roster. Cedi Osman is the only one left of those who were acquired via trade, but Doug McDermott could play a solid role, too.
But their offseason moves may not be over, as Damian Lillard was just traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, and some players could shake loose as a result. The Phoenix Suns now have too many players on the roster, so solid guys could hit the open market.
Buy Bulls TicketsThe Spurs have too many guys on the roster already, but if the right player shakes loose, they could cut someone extra and bring them in. Here are three players the Spurs should monitor post-Lillard trade.
1. Keon Johnson
Keon Johnson was included in the Lillard trade, landing with the Suns. The 21-year-old forward spent this past year with the Portland Trail Blazers, and while he struggled with efficiency, the 6-foot-5 guard is a guy who could be worth taking a chance on.
2. Ish Wainright
If the Spurs want to put big bodies around Wembanyama, look no further than Ish Wainright. A football and basketball player at Baylor, the 6-foot-6, 250 lb. forward plays bigger than he is and could be an intriguing talent despite already being 29 years old.
3. Jordan Goodwin
Jordan Goodwin joined the Suns in the Bradley Beal trade after a solid rookie season with the Washington Wizards. He may not be a priority for the Suns, but at 24 years old, he’s the exact type of point guard San Antonio should be interested in as they look to solidify their guard room behind Tre Jones.
