3 people die and 2 left seriously injured in A38 crash near M1

Three people have died and two people have been left seriously injured in a crash on the A38 in the early hours of Saturday morning (April 23). Emergency services were called to the incident, which involved one car, at around 2.15am.

The car, a silver Ford Focus, was on the southbound carriageway of the A38, near to the exit for the B600 at Somercotes, when it left the road and collided with a tree. Two women and a man died at the scene.

Their families are aware and are being supported by specially-trained police officers. A man and a woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries. They both remain in hospital, the man in a critical condition and the woman in a stable condition.

The A38 was closed in both directions from junction 28 of the M1 to the B600 in the early hours of Saturday morning. The closure, which spanned the village of Pinxton, on the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire border, remained in place for several hours, with motorists advised to find an alternative route.

The collision caused the car to catch fire. Officers from Derbyshire Constabulary, investigating the incident, passed on their thoughts to loved ones affected by the devastating crash. Witnesses are asked to come forward as well as anybody who saw the car, which had been travelling southbound on the M1 before the collision.

A spokesman for the force added: "We would particularly appeal for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage which could help with our enquiries to get in touch. If you have any information which you think could help, please contact us on the below details, quoting reference 22*0229425."

Police can be contacted through the force's official Facebook and Twitter accounts or via the official website. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via the charity's website.
