3 Key Things for Nvidia Stock Investors to Watch as GTC 2025 Kicks Off Today

All eyes are on Nvidia (NVDA) this morning as it kicks off its much-anticipated GTC event that many believe will focus mostly on artificial intelligence and quantum computing

However, another emerging technology, co-packaged optics (CPO), may also take the center stage at the company’s annual event on Monday, according to Jefferies analyst Blayne Curits.

Nvidia shares are slipping ahead of GTC and are down about 3% at the time of writing on Monday, March 17. That said, here are the top three things NVDA investors should watch at GTC 2025.

#1: Focus on Nvidia’s Updates on CPO Technology

CPO integrates optical connectivity with chips to help significantly reduce power consumption – a crucial need for AI server clusters in data centers.

Jefferies analyst Blayne Curtis expects NVDA to announce CPO options on its InfiniBand and Spectrum solutions at GTC 2025.

While he expects “limited volumes” initially, Nvidia could still demonstrate co-packaged optics at the annual event to validate the efficiency and scalability of its “systems-based approach,” he added in a research note today.

Ahead of the annual GTC event, Nvidia stock is down about 20% versus its year-to-date high.

#2: Focus on Nvidia’s Updates on Quantum Technology

Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities expects Nvidia to offer more color on its progress in quantum computing, including updates on its Quantum-3 and Quantum-X800 platforms at the GTC conference on March 17.

In 2024, the company’s chief executive, Jensen Huang, said real-life utility of quantum technology was decades away.

But the landscape has shifted since, particularly with D-Wave (QBTS) recently claiming to have achieved quantum supremacy. So, investors should also look for clues on whether Huang’s view on quantum computers has changed.

#3: Focus on Nvidia’s Updates on Its AI chips

Finally, the star of Nvidia’s GTC 2025 will be its advanced B300 AI chip that promises an exciting 50% performance improvement over its predecessor, according to TF analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Investors should focus on the management’s updates on production timelines as it could help improve the overall sentiment surrounding NVDA shares, he added in a report today.

Additionally, investors should focus on Nvidia’s insights into its Blackwell Ultra lineup and the next-generation Rubin chips at the annual event as well.

Analysts View on NVDA Heading into GTC 2025

Heading into the annual GTC conference 2025, Wall Street is keeping bullish on Nvidia stock.

The consensus rating on NVDA shares currently sits at “Strong Buy” with the mean target of about $176 indicating potential upside of more than 45% from current levels.
