3 easy and effective wrapping paper storage solutions pro organizers swear by

Christmas living room.

The tree is decorated, the lights are twinkling, and the presents are wrapped – but what to do with all that leftover wrapping paper?

It may be notoriously tricky to tuck away, and awkwardly long to store, but organizing and putting away wrapping paper is a necessary evil when it comes to Christmas.

So, why not do it how the pros do? Here, we spoke to organizational experts to find out how they store their Christmas gift wrapping ideas, to keep your pretty paper neat, tidy, and in good condition for use next year.

Wrapping paper storage solutions pro organizers swear by

1. Hanging storage bags

When it comes to wrapping paper, Rachel Rosenthal, organizational expert and Post-it® brand ambassador, loves using hanging storage bags.

She says, 'A hanging storage bag (such as the ProPik Hanging Double Sided Wrapping Paper Storage Organizer available at Amazon) is a fantastic way to store wrapping paper and other holiday supplies because it can be hung in a closet or behind a door on a hook, keeping everything in one place and out of sight when not in use.

'These hanging bags often feature multiple compartments for wrapping paper rolls, ribbons, and even gift bags,' to organize gift bags and keep all your seasonal supplies in one accessible place.

These bags are also a brilliant space-saving way to use vertical storage, and can be hung in small closet ideas and even out of the way in laundry room ideas, suggests Rosenthal. 'It also keeps your wrapping paper rolls crease-free and ready to use,' she adds.

2. Underbed storage boxes

We're all for maximizing on underbed storage ideas, and, as an area that's out of the way (and out of sight) it makes the perfect space to store wrapping paper, says Di Ter Avest, professional organizer and founder of Diisorganized.

She explains, 'These boxes (such as the Sterilite 60qt Clear View Underbed Storage Bin with Latch available at Target) maximize space in small homes with no storage. They protect wrapping paper from damage and keep everything organized in one spot.

'Many under-the-bed boxes have compartments for ribbons, bows, and gift tags, making them an all-in-one storage solution.'

If you're yet to use this underused spot in your home that's perfect for storage, learn how to declutter and organize the area under the bed before getting started. Just be sure to avoid any underbed organizing mistakes, like neglecting to label supplies, which may make your newfound solution more stressful than streamlined.

Luckily, organizational expert Rosenthal is on hand to advise on how to ace your labelling system. She says, 'Labeling is the key to keeping everything organized. Post-it® Notes are perfect for this! You can easily label and relabel the contents of each bin or compartment so you know exactly which supplies you have where.

'Plus, Post-it® Super Sticky Notes available on Amazon are durable and have long-lasting adhesive that reliably sticks and re-sticks on different surfaces ensuring your labels stay in place as you sort and move items around,' perfect for if you decide to switch up your storage supplies in the future.

And, with any left overs, why not try solving your aversion to tidying by using Post-it notes in the 'visual clues trick,' like our writer Rebecca Shepherd tried recently.

3. Upright plastic storage

Finally, if you prefer something that's easy to access, rather than being hidden away, consider an upright plastic container, says Rosenthal.

'These bins are perfect for storing paper vertically and can be tucked into a corner of a room, closet, or even your pantry ideas. The upright storage keeps your rolls organized and easy to grab when needed.'

'As with all organizing, consistency is key,' says Rosenthal. 'After the holidays, take a moment to re-organize your wrapping paper storage, so it’s ready to go for next year. A simple 15-minute session to put away everything in its designated space and relabel your bins will help save you time and keep you organized when the holiday season rolls around!'
