3 Contract Decisions That The Packers Must Make In 2025

The Green Bay Packers had a strong season in 2024, but had the unfortunate designation of playing in the NFC North. Despite winning 11 games for the first time since 2021, Jordan Love and company finished third in their division behind the Lions and Vikings, and were given a tough matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles for their Wild Card Weekend game.

A loss in Philadelphia ends Green Bay’s hopes for the current campaign. They’ll enter the off-season with certain contract situations looming, including extension possibilities and guys who may be cut or traded.

3 Contract Decisions For The Packers This Off-Season

Which players will the team’s front office be taking long looks at this spring? Here are three contract situations that the Packers will have to address during the 2025 off-season:

Jaire Alexander – CB

Alexander elevated himself into the conversation of best cornerbacks in the league back in 2020. He was named to both a Pro Bowl and as a Second-Team All-Pro that year, feats that he repeated two years later, and in the meantime had earned himself a 4-year, $84 million deal. And while he is still productive and one of the better players at his position, he hasn’t played a whole lot over the last few years.

Over the past two seasons, Alexander has participated in 14 of a possible 34 for the Packers. Back in 2021, he was able to suit up for just four contests. Outside of his 16-game season in 2022, he has played 18 of a possible 51 games since he first made the Pro Bowl. Green Bay can save some money by voiding the final two years of Alexander’s contract in the spring, an option they’ll likely take due to the soon-to-be 28-year-old’s recent unavailability.

Romeo Doubs – WR

The Packers had a balanced passing attack in 2024, with four players commanding 70 or more targets on the year. Romeo Doubs was one of them, and became Jordan Love’s go-to wide receiver at points, especially with Christian Watson in and out of the lineup. He was only able to play in 13 games himself, so he saw a slight dip in production from his 2023 numbers, but Doubs caught 46 balls for 601 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Doubs is and will be a value asset, as he is still playing on a rookie contract that is set to pay him $1.2 million in 2025. But it is likely that he and his agent will be looking to strike a deal on an extension during the upcoming off-season, and the Packers will have to make a decision on paying a player who has never reached 700 receiving yards in a season.

Quay Walker – LB

Walker has been a reliable piece for the Packers for the last three seasons, but has ultimately failed to live up to his billing as a first round pick. He is set to earn $4.4 million in 2025, with the following year of his contract holding a club options for a 5th and final season, but Green Bay might be making a decision on Walker’s future earlier than 2026.

It is likely that the Packers will be floating his name in potential trades. They wouldn’t save any money by cutting him straight up, but would add just over $2.5 million should they trade him at any point between now and the start of the 2025 campaign.
