29-year-old woman drowned while on holiday in Albania

A 29-year-old woman from the UK has died while on holiday in Albania. Rebecca Gannon died in a diving accident whilst abroad with her boyfriend. Beccie had apparently noticed something was wrong with her scuba gear and asked for it to be changed before going on the dive down to an old wreck.

Dad George said he understands she and boyfriend, Robert Per Kerans, dived in but within five minutes she came back up ‘panicking and asking for help’. An expert had reportedly jumped in to save Beccie, but she went down again. Beccie’s death certificate says she drowned.

Her body was flown from Albania back to Stone on September 27. The family now face hefty costs and are fundraising for George’s fight as he plans to head to Albania soon after his daughter’s funeral on Thursday.

The 61-year-old told StokeonTrentLive: “I’m going to put my daughter to rest and then go straight to Albania and stay there until I find out how she was killed. I was completely heartbroken and I have never been in my whole life, now I am angry. We haven’t got any justice and I won’t come back until I am able to tell my wife and children I’ve found justice. I won’t leave until I get the answers.

“I will get it one way or another. I’ve got to pacify my son, daughter, wife and every single person in my family and Beccie’s friends. We’re talking about a 29-year-old lady who had the whole world ahead of her. By somebody’s stupidity or lack of experience, she is now dead.

“As a family we cannot get our heads around it. Once I get back we are going to have to start all over again.”

George added: “Once I am over there I’ve got to get a lawyer and interpreter. I will stay there as long as possible to find out the truth.

"As soon as Beccie was released, we’ve had no information from Albania whatsoever. Gill doesn’t leave the house and she is absolutely destroyed. The only way I’ll be able to bring her back to normality is through getting justice.

"The support from everyone has been fantastic."

Beccie’s brother Joey added: “It would mean the world to get answers. This should never have happened so there must’ve been a reason why it went as far as her drowning.

“If something was wrong it should’ve been picked up. We’ll never sleep easy until we find out the truth.

“We will never as a family be able to accept what has happened to Beccie. Finding out the reasons why this happened and why it was allowed to happen are paramount.”
